School Uniforms with Benefits

It used to be that only private or catholic schools that wore the standard school uniforms. I'm not talking about the cheerleader or other sports uniforms that students wear; I'm talking about the school uniforms that the students were to school on a daily basis.
Today, certain schools are starting to utilize them all over the world. For instance, I will use my son for example; he attends a charter school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This school is brand new with only grades K-4th grade. Last year's school year in 2009 was the first year they opened and will continue to add another grade each year. (4th grade was added this year) The school decided to have all of their student’s wear uniforms that consisted on a school logo shirt with always khaki pants or a kakis skirt for the girls. Their shoes could ONLY be plain white, black or brown. (students and parents choice) Nothing like in the Hollywood movies with the red, black and white platted outfits and skirts, but theses ones would do just fine.
When we attended the schools orientation, I asked the question that all the parents wanted to know; "Why, uniforms?" and we were all informed by the school staff that they wanted all of their scholars to all feel the same, to all be equal and have nobody in the school be the "best dressed" or the "coolest" student roaming the halls or classrooms. Soon after hearing the logical answer, I began to look around the room and just for a few seconds, I notice all the parents in the room thinking to themselves, staring at nothing quietly reminiscing about how it really was for them back in elementary, middle and high school. After snapping out of the small trance, I could then tell which category each parent once was in when it came to that issue years ago when we were the young scholars where our children now stood. Now, don't go telling me that you don't know what I'm talking about...as much as we loved or hated it, we all know where we once stood when the shoe was on the other foot. (The cool kids, the nerds, the jocks, and so on)
Some of the parents agreed with the uniforms agreeing that this was a good idea, and some going against it, stating that they didn’t like them and wanted their children to wear the cloths they bought for them. Of course we were all entitled to state our opinions about the new uniforms that day, but the question today is "Does School Uniforms have Benefits" for our children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and so on?
Well, I'd say that...YES, they do. Do we really want our future lawyers and doctors not able to concentrate 100% on school assignments and learning all that they can? To have the not so fortunate ones (which was me) have to feel intimidation because they can't keep up with the growing fashionistas out there? No, let’s have them have fun and learn everything that their little minds can absorb and to be all that they can be without having to worry about what they're wearing and what they're not wearing.

Good Luck Scholars!
